Description

Following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) deployed forces around the globe in our nation’s fight against Al Qaeda network.  Providing highly trained, combat ready forces, the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) successfully executed a broad spectrum of Special Forces missions including combat advisory assistance missions in the Republic of the Philippines, direct combat action against Al Qaeda and its recruited foreign fighters in Iraq, and direct combat action against the Taliban, Al Qaeda and other hostile forces in Afghanistan.  Valorous acts were many, losses were steep, but courage and selflessness remained the trademarks of the Soldiers of the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) as they brought the fight to those intent on doing America harm with versatility, courage, grit and determination in keeping with the finest traditions of the Special Forces Regiment.
